Ivan got his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and master’s degree in molecular biology at the University of Belgrade, where he worked on the stability of proteins at low temperatures and the role of cytokines in multiple sclerosis. After doing internships at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine and the KU Leuven, Ivan joined the CRG in 2018 as a La Caixa fellow to perform his PhD. His work focuses on ribosome heterogeneity and how specialized ribosomes can take part in regulating gene expression, both at the protein level and the rRNA modifications level, using wet-lab and bioinformatics approaches.
He is one of the founding members of the CRG’s first workers’ council, where he is especially focused on addressing issues that the PhD community might face. Outside of the lab, he enjoys playing volleyball and making music (check out @quindileone, maybe they end up recording and uploading some of their songs).
