Samir is an RNA biologist interested in gene regulation, innate immunity, and RNA modifications. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Dundee, where he studied flowering time regulation in Arabidopsis thaliana. He then undertook a Master’s degree in Glasgow, working first on cytokinesis in yeast and then on SUMOylation in the innate immune response to influenza A infection.

He obtained his PhD in the lab of Sara Macias at the IIIR, where he investigated the role of ILF3 in type I interferon responses to viral infection. He then joined Ulf Ørom’s lab in Aarhus, Denmark, to study METTL3 and m6A RNA modifications in triple-negative breast cancer metastasis.

He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Eva Novoa’s lab, focusing on RNA modifications using a combination of molecular biology and computational approaches, including Nanopore sequencing and bioinformatics.
