Agustín earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedicine at the University of Seville (Spain) and completed his bachelor’s thesis in the lab of Iván Valle at the CABIMER (Andalusian Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine Centre), where he studied genetic factors associated with DNA instability and Fanconi Anemia carcinogenesis. He continued in the same university and institute to pursue a Master’s in Omics Data Analysis and Systems Biology, now working under Gonzalo Millán for his master’s thesis, which focused on characterizing novel histone post-translational modifications and their functional relevance on chromatin states.

In October 2025, he switched sides from DNA to RNA and joined the Novoa Lab as a PhD student supported by a FI-STEP fellowship. His project focuses on how cellular stress affects tRNA modifications and their subsequent effects on translational regulation through ribosome specialization.

If he is not around the lab, he is probably busy on not missing a single activity organized by the PhD community. He also enjoys playing the electric/acoustic/spanish guitar, and, if his scientific career doesn’t work out, he plans on becoming a rockstar as a reliable secondary source of income.
