Cristina has a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology pursued at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE). She did the internship in Bicciato lab, UNIMORE, where she built a collection of gene expression profiles of breast cancer primary tumors and metastases paired samples from public repositories of RNAseq and microarray data. She decided to continue with a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics at the University of Bologna, then moved to Barcelona to perform her Master internship in Serrano lab, at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG). Here, she developed her thesis project which consisted in modelling tRNA modifications and corresponding enzymes integrating RNA sequencing, ribosome profiling and LC-MS data. She started her PhD in Novoa lab in February 2023 and now she is investigating the neuronal epitranscriptome via nanopore RNA sequencing data and developing LC-MS protocols in collaboration with the CRG/UPF Proteomics Unit.
Aside from epitranscriptomics, she loves anything concerning music, from playing instruments (or annoying the neighborhood, if you prefer) to attending concerts. In Summer, she enjoys snorkeling and drinking iced tea with friends.
