Morghan joined the lab in 2018 as a PhD student and is currently a postdoc after she defended her thesis in 2023. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland in Australia, where she combined computational biology, optogenetics and confocal and light-sheet microscopy to investigate neural circuit function in zebrafish models. She then moved to the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, where she studied invasion, metastasis and the tumour microenvironment and developed assays to assess small molecule inhibitors in solid tumours pre-clinic. During her PhD, she worked on a number of projects involving nanopore sequencing, including methods to detect RNA modifications, multiplex samples, sequence short RNAs such as tRNAs (Nano-tRNAseq), and investigate sperm RNA dynamics in intergenerational inheritance. In addition to her research, Morghan is passionate about EDI issues and is active in various EDI, gender balance, well-being and LGBQTIA+ committees. She also enjoys making art but usually makes cartoons of her lab mates and their research, and outside of the lab, she enjoys live music, running and going to the beach (where she reminisces about the beautiful beaches in Australia that she misses).
